Demolition Underway at Warner Center's Rocketdyne Site

According to the Los Angeles Daily News, demolition is now underway at the 61-year-old Rocketdyne Propulsion & Power Plant at Victory Boulevard and Canoga Avenue in Warner Center. The approximately 46-acre property, vacant for the last several years, is being converted by owner United Technologies Corp. into what has been described as a $3-billion “sustainable urban neighborhood.“ The project, which is being developed in partnership with Boston Global Investors (BGI), will feature a series of high-rise and mid-rise buildings offering residential units and office space above ground-floor shops and restaurants.

Check Out Progress on the Sixth Street Viaduct

The live cameras may be down for the count, but aerial images from architectural photographer Hunter Kerhart showcase progress on the Sixth Street Viaduct replacement. Crews are currently in the process of demolishing the 3,500-foot long bridge, which was compromised by an alkali-silica reaction. Past studies indicated that the condition put the 1932 structure at a high risk of collapse during a major seismic event. One of the bridge’s iconic metal arches was removed earlier this month, and will eventually be incorporated into a park that is planned beneath the viaduct.

Unbuilt Carson Stadium Resurfaces...in Las Vegas

In January, the resurrection of the Los Angeles Rams marked the end of the NFL’s 20-year absence in Southern California. The team has now settled into temporary accommodations at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, and will play its home games at a $2.66-billion stadium in Inglewood by the year 2018. While the return of professional football was met with great fanfare by countless Angelenos, two organizations were left disappointed by the outcome.

The development site is currently home to the Attie Building, an early 1930s structure at 6436 W.
