One of Southern California’s most prolific real estate firms is cooking up big plans near Los Angeles International Airport. According to documents from the Neighborhood Council of Westchester and Playa Del Rey, CIM Group intends to construct a low-rise apartment complex on a property located one block east of a bustling commercial stretch of Sepulveda Boulevard. Designs from Santa Monica-based VTBS Architects call for a five-story structure, featuring 137 residential units, 213 below-grade parking spaces and nearly 15,000 square feet of open space.

At the southeast corner of Washington and National Boulevards, exterior work has been substantially completed for the Platform, an office and retail complex which is being developed by the San Francisco-based Runyon Group. The project, designed by Abramson Teiger Architects, includes several newly constructed buildings and the adaptive reuse of several structures from an automobile dealership which previously occupied the four-acre property. Construction of the Platform is schedule for completion this Fall.

After years of delay, a $300 million high-rise building is rapidly climbing upwards in Century City. Last summer, Miami-based developer Crescent Heights broke ground on 10000 Santa Monica Boulevard, a 40-story apartment tower straddling the border between the cities of Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. The property, vacant for over ten years, will eventually yield 283 luxury apartments ranging from 1,500 to more than 3,000 square feet. The series of one-, two-and-three-bedroom units will be supplemented by plush amenities including a tennis court and an outdoor swimming pool.

More construction cranes are on the horizon for Downtown Los Angeles, as yet another high-rise development begins work across the street from the LA Live complex. Earlier this week, crews began stripping asphalt from a sprawling surface parking lot near the Los Angeles Convention Center. The 2.7-acre property, located at 1200 South Figueroa Street, is owned by a consortium of local investors including Jamison Services and the Hankey Group. Their plans for the property include a pair of 36-story buildings, featuring 648 luxury condominiums and over 40,000 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space.

At long last, we can take in live construction updates for the massive Wilshire Grand thanks to a camera perched above Ernst & Young Plaza. The 73-story tower, designed by architecture firm AC Martin, will eventually rise 1,100 feet to become the West Coast’s tallest building. The project, which is being developed by Korean Airlines, will offer 400,000 square feet of creative office space, a 900-room Intercontinental Hotel, a rooftop observation deck and ground-level stores and restaurants when completed in 2017.

With over 5,000 residential units under construction, Downtown Los Angeles has been a bright spot in the midst of Southern California’s debilitating housing crisis. There are few places where this is more apparent than the three block stretch of Pico Boulevard between Olive and Hope streets, where five new mixed-use developments are rising simultaneously. At the northwest corner of Pico and Olive Street, excavation is progressing for an eye-catching residential-retail complex.

In the midst of an ambitious $6 billion fundraising campaign, the University of Southern California has transformed their section of South Los Angeles into a sea of construction cranes. Take a look at four projects currently changing the landscape of the 229-acre University Park campus. USC Village Last summer, work kicked off for the first phase of the USC Village, a $650 million mixed-use development on the former site of the University Village shopping center.

With a tower crane on site, construction is kicking into high gear for Ten50, a residential tower from San Francisco-based developer Trumark Urban. The $100 million project - designed by architecture firm HansonLA - will consist of a 22-story edifice at the corner of 11th Street and Grand Avenue in the bustling South Park neighborhood. Plans call for a total of 151 one- and two-bedroom condominiums within the building, seated above a five-level parking podium with approximately 5,900 square feet of ground-level commercal space.

CA Landmark Group (CLG), a Los Angeles-based real estate developer, has purchased the Westside Family YMCA at 1947 Sawtelle Boulevard with the intention of building a residential-retail complex on the site. Plans filed with Department of City Planning call for a five-story structure featuring 73 residential units and 7,700 square feet of ground floor commercial space.

A nondescript office park in the West San Fernando Valley is slated to give way for a skyline-altering development. Earlier this week, plans were filed with the City of Los Angeles for a large mixed-use complex at 5955 North De Soto Avenue in Warner Center. The 2.9-acre property, listed amongst the portfolio of Majestic Asset Management, would birth a multi-phase development consisting of apartments, commercial office space and pedestrian-oriented stores and restaurants.
