Fly Through Little Tokyo's Budokan

A flythrough video posted to YouTube provides a sneak preview of the Budokan of Los Angeles, a proposed community center in Little Tokyo. The multipurpose facility, which is being developed by the non-profit Little Tokyo Service Center (LTSC), is slated for a nearly one-acre site at 229-249 S. Los Angeles Street. According to the Budokan’s official website, features will include: The project, which will target LEED Gold certification, is being designed by Los Angeles-based architecture firm Gruen & Associates.

More Apartments Rising in Irvine Business Complex

One block east of Jamboree Road, a multifamily residential complex is rising in the Irvine Business Complex. The 360 Fusion Apartment Homes, a project by developer 360 Residential, is rising from a 3.5-acre site at the corner of McGaw and Murphy Avenues. According to plans filed with the City of Irvine, the development entails a five-story building featuring 280 apartments - including 29 units reserved as affordable housing. The low-rise structure will wrap a six-story garage, which will provide parking accommodations for up to 424 vehicles.

Site Cleared for Future Hollywood Hotel

A vacant commercial building in Central Hollywood has been demolished, setting the stage for the construction of a mid-rise hotel tower. The Thompson Hollywood, officially announced last year, would rise from an approximately half-acre site at 1523-1541 N. Wilcox Avenue. Plans call for a 10-story building which would feature 200 guest rooms, multiple food-and-beverage venues, and amenities such as a swimming pool and a rooftop deck. The hotel would be operated by Commune Hotels & Resorts, the San Francisco-based parent company of the Thompson brand.

First Glimpse of Hollywood's Tommie Hotel

Last week, the Los Angeles Department of City Planning published new environmental documents which provide a first look at Hollywood’s proposed Tommie Hotel. The project, which is being developed by Los Angeles-based real estate firm Five Chairs, is slated for a half-acre site at 1400 Cahuenga Boulevard. Plans call for a seven-story structure containing 175 guest rooms above 5,600 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space. Other features would include a two-level subterranean garage, with accommodations for 106 vehicles and 62 bicycles.

Another Campus Development Proposed in Playa Vista

Strong demand for office space in Playa Vista continues to drive new development on the neighborhood’s perimeter. Last week, developer NSB Associates filed plans with the City of Los Angeles to construct a campus-style project at 12575 W. Beatrice Street, a short distance south of the Marina Freeway. Plans call for approximately 250,000 square feet of offfice space and a 3,146 square feet of retail component. The 3.8-acre property is currently developed with a series of low-slung buildings which house the co-working space CTRL Collective.

DTLA High-Rise to Receive Upgrades

Recent years have seen Downtown’s once ample stock of large surface parking lots give way for a series of high-rise developments. Now, one of the neighborhood’s older mixed-use buildings will implement a series of modifications in order to keep up with the evolving neighborhood. Last week, all tenants of the 22-story tower at 801 S. Grand Avenue were notified that an expansion of the 1980s high-rise is expected to commence before the end of April.

First Look at New Platinum Triangle Development

Thanks to a tipster for the website LAOCDB, renderings have emerged for Jefferson Stadium Park, a planned $364-million mixed-use development in Anaheim’s Platinum Triangle. The project, which is being developed in three phases by the Texas-based real estate firm JPI, would rise from an approximately 17.6-acre site at the corner of Gene Autry Way and State College Boulevard. Plans call for the construction of three five-story structures, comprising 1,079 residential units and approximately 9,800 square feet of ground-level commercial space.

Wood Framework Rises for Topaz

Construction has progressed to the sixth floor above ground-level on Topaz, an upcoming residential-retail complex in Downtown’s Historic Core. The project, located on an approximately .92-acre site at 550 S. Main Street, is being developed by Los Angeles-based Jade Enterprises. Plans call for a seven-story building feature 159 studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments above approximately 23,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space. Other features will include a fitness center, a media room, a swimming pool and multiple outdoor courtyards.

Proposed Hollywood Office Tower Takes a Haircut

According to an agenda item from today’s meeting ot the Los Angeles City Planning Commission, local real estate firm Hudson Pacific Properties (HPP) has revised its plan for a new high-rise office building in Hollywood. The proposed tower, slated for a 1.55-acre parking lot at 5901 Sunset Boulevard, has received a design overhaul in response to community feedback and staff review. HPP now intends to build a 15-story, 230-foot tall structure, in lieu of the 18-story, 260-foot tall building from its original plan.

Irvine's Park Place Continues Build Out

Park Place, a 105-acre mixed-use campus in the Irvine Business Complex, continues to expand. On the southern edge of campus along Michelson Drive, vertical construction is nearing completion for a new AC Hotel by Marriott. The project, which is being developed by Dallas-based Woodbine Development Corporation, will consist of a six-story building featuring 175 guest rooms. The select-service hotel is being designed by global architecture firm HKS, Inc. It is just the third American location for the AC Hotel brand, following establishments in New Orleans and Miami Beach.
