Major Development Underway on Olympic Boulevard

Jamison Services Inc., one of the Southern California’s largest office landlords, has broken ground on a mixed-use development on the southern edge of Koreatown. The residential-retail complex, now rising from a 1.5-acre site at 3060 W. Olympic Boulevard, will consist of a a seven-story building feature 226 one- and two-bedroom apartments. Plans also call for a swimming pool, a fitness center, two rooftop decks and over 16,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space.

Exploring Glendale's Proposed Freeway Cap Park

A website created by Glendale’s Community Development Department has revealed new details about Space 134, the city’s $150-million plan to build 24 acres of park space atop a trenched stretch of the 134 Freeway. The proposed linear green space, slated for a .7 mile stretch between Central and Balboa Avenues, would span from the city’s Downtown district to adjacent residential neighborhoods to the east. Glendale officials have trumpeted the project’s potential to improve public health, reduce pollution and strengthen transit connections to the rest of Los Angeles County.

Residential Component of Huntington Beach's Pacific City Underway

Bernards, a Los Angeles-based construction services firm, has announced the construction of the residential component of Pacific City, a large mixed-use development in Huntington Beach. The project - which was designed by MVE & Partners - is currently rising from a 17-acre site at 21002 Pacific Coast Highway. Plans call for the construction of six low-rise structuress arranged in a crescent shape. Each building will consist of four levels of wood-frame construction above a concrete podium and an underground parking garage.

Fashion District Building Undergoes Office Conversion

Few places exemplify the revival of Downtown Los Angeles better than the intersection of 11th Street and Broadway, where a trio of historic buildings are being revived after sitting idle for decades. The Case Hotel’s reincarnation as the boutique Proper Hotel kicked off last year, while similar transformations are pending for the erstwhile home of the Los Angeles Herald-Examiner newspaper, as well as the former headquarters of the predecessor of today’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Marriott Hotel Tower Breaks Ground Near Irvine Spectrum

Monogram at BBGM, an architecture and interior design firm based out of Scottsdale, Arizona, has announced the groundbreaking of a new Marriott hotel near the Irvine Spectrum. The 15-story tower, which is being jointly developed by R.D. Olson Development and Joseph Martelli Real Estate Investments, will feature 271 guest rooms in a variety of configurations. The hotel intends to cater to both business and leisure travelers, with high-tech in-room features such as iPhone docking stations, big-screen televisions and free Netflix and Hulu Service.

A Sneak Peek of the Oxford Basin's Park-like Transformation

A construction fenced taken down by a rare El Niño storm has provided a sneak peek at the improvements now underway at Marina del Rey’s Oxford Basin. The $14.5-million project from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works is making a series of functional and aesthetic upgrades which will improve the basin’s function and add park-like amenities around its perimeter. Ongoing work includes the removal of sediment from the basin, the installation of a new circulation berm and the addition of native landscaping.

First Look at Sapphire: City West's Latest Mixed-Use Complex

An initial study published by the Los Angeles Department of City Planning has revealed plans for Sapphire, an upcoming residential-retail complex in Downtown’s City West neighborhood. The project, which is being developed by Jade Enterprises, would rise from an approximately two-acre site fronting 5th and 6th Streets between Lucas Avenue and Bixel Street. Plans call for the demolition of an existing office complex and an associated parking garage at 1111 W.

An In-Depth Look at L.A. Live's Marriott Expansion

One month after filing plans for a $500-million expansion of the J.W. Marriott hotel complex at L.A. Live, sports and entertainment giant AEG will present details on the project to the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council’s Planning and Land Use Committee. The proposed development, which is being designed by global architecture firm Gensler, calls for the construction of a 38-story hotel tower at Olympic Boulevard and Georgia Street featuring 755 guest rooms and approximately 17,800 square feet of street-fronting retail space.

More Apartments Underway in South Park

Quantum Capital Partners and Pacific Southwest Realty Service have announced the start of construction on a 110-unit apartment complex in Downtown Los Angeles. The seven-story development is rising from a .57-acre site at 1400 S. Figueroa Street, replacing a surface parking lot across the street from the Los Angeles Convention Center. Plans call for approximately 1,400 square feet of retail space and four- live-work lofts on the building’s ground level. Residential amenities will include a fitness center, a rooftop deck, an outdoor swimming pool and parking accommodations for 114 vehicles and 126 bicycles.

Fresh Renderings for 1233 S. Grand Avenue

Yesterday, in a presentation to the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council’s Planning and Land Use Committee (DLANC), new details were revealed for 1233 S. Grand Avenue, an upcoming residential tower in the South Park neighborhood. The proposed development, intended for the site of a current surface parking lot, would consist of a 24-story building featuring 161 residential units and nearly 2,100 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Plans call for a combination of studio, one- and two-bedroom flats, as well as townhouse units and penthouse suites.
