Avalon Bay Builds Mixed-Use Complex in West Hollywood

Nearly one-and-a-half years after breaking ground, developer Avalon Bay Communities is making slow but steady progress on the former Movietown Plaza development at 7300 Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood. The sprawling 2.89-acre complex, now known as Avalon West Hollywood, will consist of a series of low-rise structures featuring 370 residential units, including 77 reserved as affordable housing for seniors. The apartments will sit atop approximately 30,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and a large underground parking garage.

Mixed-Use Complex Proposed in Van Nuys

According to plans filed last month with the City of Los Angeles, a vacant commercial building in Van Nuys is slated to give way for a new residential-retail complex. The project, located on a 1.2-acre property at 7111 N. Sepulveda Boulevard, would consist of a six-story building featuring 180 apartments and approximately 4,750 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Plans call for two levels of subterranean parking with accommodations for up to 327 vehicles and 204 bicycles.

Fresh Renderings for South Park Condo Tower

San Francisco-based real estate firm Trumark Urban has unveiled new renderings for Ten50, a 24-story condominium tower currently under construction in the South Park neighborhood of Downtown Los Angeles. The $100 million development, located at the northeast corner of 11th Street and Grand Avenue, will feature 151 one- and two-bedroom condominums above a five-level parking podium with approximately 5,900 square feet of ground-floor retail space. According to an official project website, designs from architecture firm HansonLA call for numerous residential amenities, including a resort-style pool, a fitness studio and yoga deck, a screening room and even a drone delivery pad.

Watch USC Move a Fire Station

A flurry of construction activity is underway at the University of Southern California, as the $650 million USC Village expands the historic University Park campus onto a 15-acre site bounded by Jefferson Boulevard, McClintock Avenue, 30th and Hoover Streets. To make way for one of five buildings included in the Village’s first phase, USC recently undertook the moving a historic fire station which has been located on the property since 1950.

Townhomes Break Ground in Norwalk

Irvine-based real estate developer Brandywine Homes has broken ground on Citrine, a new townhome community in Norwalk. Citrine, located on a one-acre property at 11433 Excelsior Drive, will consist of 16 residences ranging from 1,110 to 1,475-square-feet with designer finishes and unique floor plans. The homes will be located next to an existing city park and also feature an common recreation area. The project is considered an extension to Sunstone, a larger townhome community which Brandywine currently under construction in Norwalk.

Upcoming Koreatown Development Revealed

An environmental report published by the Los Angeles Department of City Planning has revealed new details for an upcoming mixed-use complex in Koreatown. The proposed development, slated for an approximately .8-acre property at 627 S. Vermont Avenue, would consist of a seven-story structure featuring 179 apartments above 12,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial floor area. Plans from developer Century West Partners call for a mixture of studio, one- and two-bedroom dwellings, supplemented by communal amenities including a fitness center, a seventh floor deck, a swimming pool and a spa.

Chinese Developer Thinks Big With Multiple Towers

City Century, the Los Angeles-based subsidiary of Shanghai real estate developer ShengLong Group, has quietly unveiled plans for multiple high-rise complexes in Central Los Angeles. The developer’s website was recently updated with new renderings of two condominium towers they plan to build at the intersection of 12th Street and Grand Avenue in the South Park neighborhood of Downtown Los Angeles. Renderings portray two glass, balcony-laden structures perched atop podiums, with a design aesthetic not dissimilar from the neighboring Evo tower.

Throwback Thursday: Downtown LA's Nighttime Skyline

Today’s Throwback Thursday is a pair of nighttime shots of the Downtown LA skyline from photographer Hunter Kerhart. Taken only nine months apart, they illustrate how quickly and dramatically the Wilshire Grand has altered the skyline. The tower has not even topped out yet, with several more floors, a glass dome, and a mast still be constructed. We can’t wait to see the finished product, and take in the new multi-peak Los Angeles skyline.
