After multiple redesigns and a name change, representatives of BuzzBuzzHome have sent word that construction has finally commenced for a new mixed-use complex near MacArthur Park. The seven-story development, dubbed the Zinc Apartments, is rising from a former surface parking lot at 2525 Wilshire Boulevard.  According to the website of the Somerset Group (the project’s developer), the low-rise building will feature 152 luxury apartments above approximately 7,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Designs from architect David Forbes Hibbert call for a mixtures of studio, one- and two-bedroom units, many of which will offer views of Downtown Los Angeles, the Hollywood Hills and even the Pacific Ocean.  A rich blend of residential amenities will include a swimming pool, a fitness center, a roof deck with an outdoor cinema, a business and conference center and a dog walk. The approximately .70-acre property, located at the northeast corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Coronado Street, originally received entitlements for a high-rise condominium tower in 2005.  Years after the global recession rendered that plan infeasible, the Somerset Group reenvisioned the project as a low-rise development. Construction of the Zinc Apartments is scheduled for completion in Spring 2017.
