This past December, the non-profit Trust for Public Land (TPL) broke ground on a nearly quarter-acre pocket park on Carlton Way. The new green space, funded by a $1.26 million grant from the State of California, replaces a long-vacant property between Gordon Street and Bronson Avenue. Designs for the project come from Korn Randolph, a Pasadena-based landscape architecture firm. According to a site plan displayed on the TPL website, the Carlton Way Pocket Park will offer amenities such as a children’s playground, fitness equipment and a small plaza flanked by trees and benches. Numerous hardscape features and seating areas are already adorned with decorative mosaic tiles, thanks to an event recently hosted by community stakeholders. To address safety concerns voiced by nearby residents, the project will include non-climable perimeter fences, clear site lines and substantial LED lighting. All furniture within the park will make use of skate-preventable designs and anti-graffiti coating where possible. Completion of the new green space is expected by this summer. It is the second pocket park to arrive in Hollywood in recent months, following the nearby Gordon Street Park, which was built by CIM Group in conjunction with the Sunset Gordon development.
