Efforts to boost the number of hotel rooms in Downtown Los Angeles continue to bear fruit, as another developer zeroes in on a property near the Convention Center and L.A. Live. According to a motion by 14th District Councilmember Jose Huizar, local developer Pacific Properties Partners has announced its intention to construct a 250-room Cambria Hotel at Georgia Street and James M. Wood Boulevard. Cambria, a limited-service brand catering to business travelers, operates under the banner of Choice Hotels International. The project is sandwiched between a slew of ongoing and proposed hotels, including a 350-key Hotel Indigo that is nearing completion across the street. Immediately south, AEG has reportedly cancelled its plans for a 38-story expansion of the J.W. Marriott at L.A. Live admist a disagreement with City Hall. As with those adjacent developments, Pacific Properties has requested financial assistance for the Cambria, and has provided $150,000 for a study of the matter. In the past, the City has allowed hotel developers to retain a portion of the transient occupancy tax generated by their projects.
