Chalmers Equity Group, an industrial and commercial real estate firm based out of Pico Rivera, has broken ground on a new office building on the eastern perimeter of the Arts District. The Santa Fe Business Center, now rising from an approximately one-acre site at 500 S. Santa Fe Avenue, will consist of a four-story building featuring just under 100,000 square feet of office space and a 199-car garage. Plans on file with the City of Los Angeles indicate that the project would also include a rooftop amenity deck. Elevation plans by O.C. Design & Engineering portray the low-rise edifice with a vintage look, similar to that of the adjacent headquarters of Lucky Brand Jeans. That building, completed in 2012, was inspired by the look of 1930s train stations. The property sits a short distance north of the iconic Sixth Street Viaduct, which is in the midst of a $449-million demolition and replacement project. West across Santa Fe Avenue, real estate firm Carmel Partners recently filed plans for a large live-work development on a property which now serves as industrial space.
