Washington D.C.-based developer Combined Properties, Inc. has started construction on a new mixed-use development across the street from the Gelson’s supermarket in West Hollywood. The project, officially known as “The Crown,” is rising from a nearly half-acre site at the southwest corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Kings Road. According to its developer’s website, plans call for 48 residential apartments seated above approximately 6,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. A photorealistic rendering from Santa Monica-based Koning Eizenberg Architecture portrays a four-story structure with exterior finishes including perforated metal panels and stone tile. The low-rse building will also include a patio area for outdoor seating. Completion of the Crown is currently on pace for the third quarter of 2016. Combined Properties is also behind a proposal to build an iconic office and retail complex on the sprawlilng Parcel B site in Downtown Culver City. The status of that development is currently unclear.
