Construction on Valencia, a new residential-retail complex from developer Sonny Astani, continues to progress in Westlake. The $60 million mixed-use development, located at 1501 Wilshire Boulevard, will eventually consist of a six-story edifice featuring 218 residential units, 4,400 square feet of ground-level retail space and 258 underground parking spaces. Plans call for a mixture of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments with amenities such as a gym, a swimming pool and landscaped interior courtyards. Additionally, 18 of the building’s residential units will be reserved for very low income households. Valencia was designed by Santa Monica-based Killefer Flammang Architects, whose website describes the project as facade as featuring a series of “extruded ‘cube’ elements.“ An elevation plan filed with the City of Los Angeles calls for exterior finishes including plaster, aluminum, and porcelain and stone tiles. A project representative informed the Downtown News in May that Valencia is scheduled for completion by December. However, the current status of construction likely places the development’s finish line further off on the horizon.
