Most of the news coming out of Hollywood’s development front in recent months has been bad, but there are glimmers of hope to be found. Three nondescript buildings just west of Sunset Boulevard and La Brea Avenue are slated for demolition were recently demolished, making way for a new mixed-use development. Located at 7124 Sunset, the 44-unit building would rise to a maximum height of 65 feet, containing 3,000 square feet of ground level restaurant space. The building’s two-level garage, located partially underground, would serve up to 117 vehicles. While Hollywood’s post-recession building boom has mostly concentrated itself around the Hollywood/Vine subway station, there are signs of resurgence in the blocks surrounding Hollywood and Highland as well. Just one block north of 7124 Sunset, the long-proposed La Brea Regency Lofts broke ground in October 2013. Slightly west on Hawthorne Avenue, a 25-unit condo development is planned. Further northeast, Curbed LA reports that construction is underway on a larger mixed-use development by locally-based Champion Real Estate.
