Located at the intersection of Metro’s Red and Orange Lines, North Hollywood has helped lead the city’s push to build walkable urban communities around major transit hubs in the San Fernando Valley. That effort will see yet another boost, as a vacant lot near North Hollywood Station gives way for a mixed-use development. Late last week, plans were submitted to the City of Los Angeles for a low-rise residential-retail complex at 11405 West Chandler Boulevard. According to a case filing from the Department of City Planning, the project calls for the construction of a seven-story building featuring 82 residential units and 1,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space. The approximately half-acre site, currently undeveloped, is bounded by the Orange Line Busway, Chandler Boulevard and Tujunga Avenue. The low-rise complex is proposed by Micropolitan, a building and development subsidiary of the engineering firm PSOMAS. According to an official website, the company specializes in sustainable and environmentally-friendly projects, with significant experience in transit-oriented development. Their previous work includes a low-rise apartment complex near the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Riverwalk Commons project in Riverside. Their proposed development on Chandler Boulevard joins several North Hollywood projects that are currently wending their way through the approval process. One block south, a small boutique hotel is in development on Weddington Street. Less than a half-mile east on Chandler Boulevard, a 329-unit mixed-use complex is proposed for a two-acre site adjacent to NoHo Commons.
