LA County + USC Medical Center, a towering icon of East Los Angeles, is in the midst of a pronounced building boom on its 90-acre Lincoln Heights campus. Norris Healthcare Consultation Center
At the southeast corner of San Pablo and Alcazar Streets, the steel skeleton of the Norris Healthcare Consultation Center is now complete. The seven-story structure, designed by global architecture firm HKS, will offer approximately 115,000 square feet of floor area devoted to a women’s cancer program, an infusion center and a multidisciplinary clinic. Scheduled for completion in 2016, it is the first of two new towers planned by the Keck Medical Center. Construction of a second seven-story building is slated to follow on an adjacent parking lot after the completion of a new parking garage on Valley Boulevard. Currie Hall
On the opposite side of Alcazar Street, the wood frame of Currie Hall is currently taking form. The five-story complex, designed by KTGY Architecture + Planning, will offer 177 apartments for medical students with a maximum capacity of 450 beds. Plans call for a full array of amenities, including a fitness center, a swimming pool, free printing and Wi-Fi service. According to an official website from developer American Campus Communities, rents in Currie Hall will range from $899 to $1,499 per month. The student housing development is expected to open in Fall 2016.
Hyatt House
A vacant lot currently in use as a construction stage area for Currie Hall is slated to become an $80-million extended-stay Hyatt House hotel. Plans from Los Angeles-based Sonnenblick Development, LLC call for a five-story building featuring 200 guest rooms, nearly 20,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, and an approximately 10,000-square-foot conference center. The proposed Hyatt House, designed by AHT Architects, would offer a standard range of guest amenities, including a pool deck and a 310-car parking garage.
