A scuttled proposal for a high-rise complex in City West has come back to life in bigger (and hopefully better) form. Yesterday, Career Lofts-LA, LLC submitted revised plans to the City of Los Angeles for the construction of a mixed-use develoment on a large property bounded by 7th, Bixel and Ingraham Streets. According to a case filing from the Department of City Planning, the project would be highlighted by a 36-story tower featuring 422 residential units and commercial space. Plans also call for the construction of a seven-story hotel within the development. A document found by resourceful Urbanize commenters indicates that the proposed 143-key hotel would be operated by Home2 Suites, a Hilton brand which focuses on extended-stay travelers. As of this past February, the hotel was expected to open in July 2016. The project is linked to United American Properties, a Newport Beach-based real estate consulting firm. Further details about the proposed development, including its timeline, are unavailable at this point in time. The 1.9-acre subject property has been eyed for development since as early as 2005, when a previous land owner announced plans for a squat, 17-story condominium building. That project, like all high-rise developments proposed in City West at the time, was mothballed in the wake of the global recession. The proposed 36-story tower represents an emerging trend of high-density development spreading west across the Harbor freeway from booming Downtown Los Angeles. Just three months ago, plans were revealed for a similar 26-story tower on a nearby property at 1135-1147 W. 7th Street. One block south, a 12-story apartment building is in the works on Hartford Avenue.
