An environmental report published by the Los Angeles Department of City Planning (LADCP) have provided a first glimpse of a new hotel planned along the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The project, which is being developed by CIM Group, is slated to replace a series of low-rise commercial buildings on an approximately .75-acre site at 6611-6637 Hollywood Boulevard.  Plans call for a six-story building featuring up to 167 guest rooms and suites above approximately 19,900 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and a 1,634 square foot community art gallery. City records indicate that the proposed hotel would offer numerous amenities, including a pool deck, small meeting rooms, a fitness center and parking accommodations for up to 87 vehicles and 150 bicycles in a below-grade garage. According to the environmental report, designs from architecture firm Gene Fong Associates call for staggered elements which create changing patterns across the building’s facade.  At ground level, windows and glass are intended to create a pleasant pedestrian environment.  Other design features take inspiration from the Baine Building, an adjacent Spanish Colonial Revival structure built in 1927. A page from the architect’s website suggests that the hotel would be operated by Hyatt House, the extended-stay brand of the Hyatt Hotels Corporation.  However, it is unclear whether or not this information reflects current plans for the project. Regardless of its eventual operator, construction of the hotel is expected to occur over approximately 28 months, with completion scheduled for January 2018.  According to the environmental report, CIM Group intends to begin demoltion of the property’s existing buildings in February 2016. As currently proposed, the project will require numerous discretionary approvals from the City of Los Angeles, including a vesting zone and height district change.
