On the southern fringe of Downtown Los Angeles, construction is underway for a mixed-use development that will add residential density near an underutilized stop on Metro’s Blue Line. The low-rise complex from developer Meta Housing Corporation is rising from an approximately .67-acre site at 722-736 E. Washington Boulevard. According to plans filed with the City of Los Angeles, the project will include 55 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments situated above 1,500 square feet of ground-floor retail space and parking accommodations for up to 63 vehicles. Plans call for a slew of amenities similar to those in nearby market rate communities, including a community room, a computer room, on-site laundry facilities and two courtyards. A rendering from Los Angeles-based Y&M Architects portrays a modern, four-story structure clad with a glass storefront and blue flourishes. The project also includes the renovation of an adjacent four-story building which dates back to 1930. Construction of the Washington 722 TOD is scheduled for completion in 2016.
