Nearly one year after unveiling plans for a $500-million expansion of the Marriott complex at L.A. Live, AEG has finally submitted plans to the City of Los Angeles for the new hotel tower. As previously reported by the Los Angeles Times, the proposed development will add 755 guest rooms to the existing J.W. Marriott, creating the second-largest hotel in California with 1,756 rooms.  The expansion will be linked to the existing building via a pedestrian bridge over Olympic Boulevard. According to a case filing from the Department of City Planning, others facets of the project include approximately 17,800 square feet of ground-floor retail and entertainment space and 170,000 square feet of conference, meeting and ballroom uses. The 38-story tower, designed by global architecture firm Gensler, would rise to an architectural apex of 385 feet above street level. The J.W. Marriott expansion will rise at the northeast corner of Olympic Boulevard and Georgia Street, next-door to a 23-story Courtyard Marriott and Residence Inn which opened in 2014.  The property had previously been slated for a 450-room Renaissance Inn from Portland-based Williams & Dame Development. The project is one of numerous hotel developments planned or underway near the Los Angeles Convention Center, which has struggled for years to compete for large conventions due to a dearth of hotel rooms within a half-mile radius.
