Six months after its nominal groundbreaking, Long Beach’s first post-recession high-rise finally has non-ceremonial shovels in the dirt. Construction of the Current, a 17-story mixed-use tower, is visibly underway at the northwest corner of Lime Avenue and Ocean Boulevard. The $70 million project - formerly known as Shoreline Gateway - will offer a mixture of 223 studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and penthouse apartments. Ground-level commercial stalls will encompass a total of 6,750 square feet, divided between retail and restaurant uses.

Construction is roaring ahead on the Current, Downtown Long Beach’s first high-rise building to break ground since the Great Recession. The $70 million development from Anderson Pacific, LLC had been delayed for roughly ten years prior to starting work in Fall. As of this past weekend, rebar for the building’s basement parking now protrudes above street level. When finished in early 2016, the 17-story tower will offer 223 studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and penthouse apartments.

Developers Anderson Pacific, LLC and Ledcor are nearing completion on vertical construction for the Current, a new high-rise residential building in Downtown Long Beach. The 17-story tower, located near the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Alamitos Avenue, will consist of 223 apartments and 6,750 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space. When finished, the mixed-use complex will feature a blend of studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and penthouse apartments, supplemented by communal amenities such as a zen garden, a rooftop pool deck and a fitness center.

Developers Ledcor Properties Inc.; Anderson Pacific, LLC; and Qualico Developments Inc. have opened a temporary leasing trailer for the Current, Downtown Long Beach’s latest residential tower. The 17-story building, located at the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Alamitos Avenue, is comprised of 223 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments, 6,750 square feet of ground-floor and a 10,000-square-foot pedestrian plaza. Completion of the $70-million development is scheduled for April 2016. “The Current is the first high-rise luxury rental tower to be developed in [Long Beach] in over 50 years,” said Ryan Altoon, executive vice president of Anderson Pacific, LLC.

Earlier this week, the Real Deal LA reported that the City of Long Beach, along with the Port of Long Beach, has closed financing on a $520-million deal for an ambitious revamp of the city’s dated Civic Center. The proposed mixed-use center is being developed as a public-private partnership with the Plenary Group and Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate, which are operating under a joint venture known as Plenary-Edgemore Civic Partners (PECP).

After sitting vacant for more than a quarter-century, a prominent site in Downtown Long Beach is poised for a large commercial development. Earlier this week, the Long Beach Business Journal reported that the Long Beach City Council has approved a proposal from developer American Life, LLC to construct a 25-story hotel tower at the corner of Ocean Boulevard and Pine Avenue. The project would include up to 427 guest rooms, 19,000 square feet of meeting rooms and event space, 8,000 square feet of restaurant space and various guest amenities such as a pool and spa deck.

The mixed-use development, which held its official grand opening on June 9, consists of a 17-story building featuring 223 luxury apartments and a 10,000-square-foot pedestrian plaza flanked by retail space. The building offers a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments, as well as penthouse suites.

An upcoming presentation to Metro’s Westside/Central Service Council has revealed a new look for the pedestrian bridge in Downtown Los Angeles that will link the Metro’s future 2nd/Hope Station to the Broad Museum’s outdoor plaza. Although earlier presentations have portrayed the overpass as a spartan expanse across Hope Street, new renderings depict a more refined product. The bridge is divided into two rectangular segments, both of which are centered around concrete banks featuring green space and seating.

Last week, the Los Angeles Department of City Planning published an initial study which offers up new details on citizenM’s proposed hotel near Hollywood & Vine. The projectsite, located just south of the Capitol Records Building, was purchased by citizenM earlier this year for approximately $7.5 million. The Dutch company is now seeking approvals from the City of Los Angeles to demolish an existing one-story restaurant and replace it with a 216-room boutique hotel, featuring multiple food and beverage venues and three levels of underground parking.

New documents from Burbank’s Planning Division have revealed fresh renderings for the second component of the Burbank Town Center redevelopment. The project, which encompasses 16.5 acres of the 37-acre property, would create: The proposed buildings would replace approximately 241,000 square feet of retail space within the existing shopping complex, including an Office Max, a Corner Bakery and a soon-to-be-vacated Ikea. Per a site plan included with the submission package, pedestrian flow would be directed north from the mall by a landscaped promenade along a one-block section of San Fernando Boulevard.
