Renderings Revealed for Blvd 6200 South

A Facebook post from construction services firm Morley Builders has revealed renderings for Blvd 6200 South, the second phase of a large residential-retail complex in Hollywood. The $200-million project, which is being developed by DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners and Clarett West, will consist of a series of seven-story structures featuring 507 apartments above approximately 60,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space and an underground parking garage. The renderings portray the development with contemporary-style buildings colored red, white and grey.

L.A. City Council Approves Palladium Residences

Yesterday, the Los Angeles City Council approved plans for the Palladium Residences, a proposed $320-million development which would flank the Hollywood Palladium. Plans from Miami-based developer Crescent Heights call for the construction of two 28-story buildings on large parking lot which abuts the historic performance venue. The towers, each standing approximately 350 feet tall, would create a total of 731 residential units, 24,000 square feet of ground-level commercial space and residential amenities.

New Look for Hollywood's Academy Development

A draft environmental impact report published by the Los Angeles Department of City Planning has unveiled a new look for the Academy, a proposed mixed-use complex in Hollywood. The project from Los Angeles-based Kilroy Realty would redevelop a 3.5-acre site bounded by Vine Street, De Longpre, Ivar and Homewood Avenues. Plans call for a mixture of high-rise and low-rise structures, containing nearly 500,000 square feet of multifamily residential units, office space, shops and restaurants.

Site Cleared for Future Hollywood Hotel

A vacant commercial building in Central Hollywood has been demolished, setting the stage for the construction of a mid-rise hotel tower. The Thompson Hollywood, officially announced last year, would rise from an approximately half-acre site at 1523-1541 N. Wilcox Avenue. Plans call for a 10-story building which would feature 200 guest rooms, multiple food-and-beverage venues, and amenities such as a swimming pool and a rooftop deck. The hotel would be operated by Commune Hotels & Resorts, the San Francisco-based parent company of the Thompson brand.

First Glimpse of Hollywood's Tommie Hotel

Last week, the Los Angeles Department of City Planning published new environmental documents which provide a first look at Hollywood’s proposed Tommie Hotel. The project, which is being developed by Los Angeles-based real estate firm Five Chairs, is slated for a half-acre site at 1400 Cahuenga Boulevard. Plans call for a seven-story structure containing 175 guest rooms above 5,600 square feet of ground-floor retail and restaurant space. Other features would include a two-level subterranean garage, with accommodations for 106 vehicles and 62 bicycles.

Proposed Hollywood Office Tower Takes a Haircut

According to an agenda item from today’s meeting ot the Los Angeles City Planning Commission, local real estate firm Hudson Pacific Properties (HPP) has revised its plan for a new high-rise office building in Hollywood. The proposed tower, slated for a 1.55-acre parking lot at 5901 Sunset Boulevard, has received a design overhaul in response to community feedback and staff review. HPP now intends to build a 15-story, 230-foot tall structure, in lieu of the 18-story, 260-foot tall building from its original plan.

Hollywood's Mark Twain Hotel Undergoing Restoration

Hollywood’s Mark Twain Hotel, a Spanish Colonial revival building built in 1924, is being renovated into a modern boutique inn. The three-story structure, located at 1622 N. Wilcox Avenue, has served as single room occupancy housing for much of its lifespan. Already regarded as somewhat of a “flophouse,” by the early 1930s, the Mark Twain has played host to countless down-on-their luck individuals through its nine-decade existence, including the famed animator Joe Barbera, who once compared the building to a prison.

Pop-Up Park Opens Today in Hollywood

Later today, the Central Hollywood Coalition will unveil Hollywood Pop!, a new pop-up park at the southwest corner of Selma and Ivar Avenues. The temporary park, which will be open through the end of 2016, includes cartoon-like furniture pieces, as well as seating, tables, landscaping, shade and wayfindins signage. The project is unique in that it is located on private property, and is seen as a potential model for expanding public space throughout Hollywood.

Crane Watch: Blvd6200 South

The $200-million sequel to Hollywood’s Eastown development is now kicking into high gear. Last week, a trio of tower cranes was raised at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Argyle Avenue, setting the stage for vertical construction on Blvd 6200 South. The mixed-use complex, which is being jointly developed by Clarett West and DLJ Real Estate Capital Partners, will feature a series of seven-story buildings containing 507 apartments, 60,000 square feet of ground-level retail space and an underground parking garage.
