Construction is complete for Step Up on Colorado, a new supportive housing complex at 520 Colorado Avenue in Downtown Santa Monica. The project, which was built by the Hollywood Community Housing Corporation, consists of a five-story structure featuring 34 apartments reserved for formely homeless individuals suffering from mental illness.  The building, which is co-owned by the local non-profit Step Up on Second, offers residents amenities including two community rooms with kitchens, support offices, and a computer lab with a library. Designs from Killefer Flammang Architects feature curving balconies at the front of the building which open into communal gathering spaces.  A second-story community room also opens into a private interior courtyard.  The building is clad with cement boards and ipe siding. Step Up and Colorado is located just steps from Downtown Santa Monica Station, the future terminus of the highly anticipated Expo Line extension.  In addition, a pair of low-rise hotels are currently under construction on the opposite side of the street.
