Road Diet Planned for 6th Street

Earlier this month, the Mid City West Council’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to support a proposed road diet along a one-mile stretch of 6th Street between La Brea and Fairfax Avenues. The proposed changes would include the following: Fairfax to Masselin Avenue Eliminate two automobile travel lanes and narrow curbside parking lanes to create a center turn lane and bike lanes. Hauser Boulevard to Dunsmuir Avenue Eliminate two automobile travel lanes and narrow curbside parking lanes to create a center turn lane and bike lanes.

Miracle Mile Office Building Slated for Spring Groundbreaking

After two years of silence, the Park La Brea News has reported that developer J.H. Snyder will break ground next Spring on a new office building along the Miracle Mile. The $170-million development, located adjacent to SAF-AFTRA plaza on Wilshire Boulevard, will create a 12-story structure featuring 250,000 square feet of office space, as well as 2,100 parking spaces in an expansion of an existing garage. Renderings of the project, designed by the Jerde Partnership, portray a mid-rise tower clad with angular glass panels.

Petersen Automotive Museum Gets its New Skin

The highly anticipated renovation of the Petersen Automotive Museum has taken a big step forward, with the addition of the first stainless steel ribbons to the exterior of the Mid-Wilshire institution. The project, which began work late last year, includes a complete overhaul of the building’s facade and an expansion of the museum’s footprint to 300,000 square feet. Exterior designs by Kohn Pederson Fox Associates feature a series of curvilinear steel ribbons which will wrap the exterior of the four-story edifice.

The Desmond on Wilshire Has Shovels in the Ground

The Park La Brea News reports that Associated Estates Realty has broken ground on a 175 unit apartment building at the parking lot behind the 1928 Desmond’s Department Store at 5500 Wilshire Blvd. The building is appropriately named “The Desmond on Wilshire.“ Completion is expected by summer of 2015. The Desmond on Wilshire joins a slew of other developments on the Miracle Mile, including the under-construction Wilshire at La Brea apartments and the upcoming 13 story Museum Square Office Building.
